Client Success Stories
Solid foundations, build opportunities.
A single mother of three enrolled in eviction prevention services in January 2025. She owed $2,691 in back rent and sought help with utilities, credit, and finishing her degree to become a physical therapist. She explained that balancing parenting and flexible work made a stable income difficult. After enrolling, she met weekly with our Community Services Lead. In February, she reviewed her credit with Prosperity Connection to prepare for a car loan and sought financial aid advice to return to college. By March 2025, she secured rental assistance from the City of St. Louis and set up a utility repayment plan. She also joined career development programs to improve job opportunities. The immediate rental assistance prevented eviction, and her steps toward credit and career development are building long-term stability, savings, and homeownership.
DeSales empowers families to find stability now and work toward their goals for the future.
Steady support through uncertainty.
A long-time DeSales resident reached out for help after losing her job and needing surgery. Just as she started a new job, she wanted support to catch up on rent, utilities, and transportation so she could stay stable. With weekly guidance from our Community Service Coordination team, she got rental help from local sources, set up a utility payment plan, and even got support with transportation. She also filed her taxes with volunteer assistance.
In spring, she worked with the team on a plan to resolve her rental debt. She exited housing court successfully and kept her home. When storms caused a power outage and food loss, she was connected to Legal Services of Eastern Missouri to replace what she lost. By summer, she worried about her debt. The team introduced her to a partner organization for a savings program to help reduce it. By August, after four months of paying her rent on time, she completed her goals and wrapped up her time in the program.
DeSales believes in standing by residents through ups and downs, offering steady guidance to help them regain stability and thrive long-term.
Strength through transition.
A resident joined DeSales’ eviction prevention program after falling behind on rent due to hospitalization for an aneurysm. Her situation worsened when she lost her healthcare job while recovering. Despite these challenges, she was determined to address her rental debt and strengthen her finances. She participated in financial empowerment classes through LifeWise STL, covering topics like goal setting, budgeting, and credit. She also worked with DeSales staff to develop self-advocacy and build a positive relationship with her property manager. During her fall job search, amid economic uncertainty, she did gig work and was referred to utility and tax prep resources, helping her stay stable. Throughout the program, she met frequently with case management. By the end of March 2025, she secured a job in her field and received rental assistance to fully cover her balance.
Our mission is to provide steady, community-focused support, empowering residents to regain stability and build a path toward long-term success.
